Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the most recognized and widely accepted evidence-based practice for treating Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental and behavioral disabilities . ABA is based on the principles of increasing behaviors that are helpful and decreasing behaviors that are problematic. What sets ABA aside from other treatments is the support from empirical research findings. From these findings, we develop a treatment plan specific to your child that leads to an increase in communication, social, and functional living skills.
Antecedents: These are things or events that precede a behavior. (e.g. telling your child to clean up the toys)
Behavior: Behavior is an observable and measurable action. (e.g. running, kicking, crying, waving)
Consequences: This is what follows the behavior, it can be positive (e.g. giving your child a new toy for earning good grades) or negative (e.g. removing access to the TV for earning poor grades).
